Over the
next few months I will be adding material to this Wired Up Downe
section of the DDT website which will show Downe residents how we may
be able to have inexpensive HIGH SPEED internet
I make no
promises. But I will describe how we can do it.
Who I am
and What I've done similar to this idea
But first, a
little background on what I know about such things.
Many Downe
residents aren't aware of my personal background in electronics and
computers. I thought it would be helpful for everyone interested in
HIGH SPEED Internet for Downe to realize that I have a long history in
computers, radio and electronics in general.
I got my
first amateur radio license at age 12. During my teens I built many
projects related to talking to people all over the world. When I got to
high school I became an engineer in our school FM station, WHHS. Our
station was one of less than a dozen in the country located within a
high school. I had to pass a rather extensive Federal Communications
Commission examination to get the government license.
When in the
service with the 82nd Airborne Division I was a radio operator and
eventually became an instructor for operating and technical matters for
the men in my unit. During my service years I communicated all over the
world from my radio truck and a ham shack that I was allowed to set up
in my barracks.
In the mid
1970s, I began building a computer from the basic
components...integrated circuit chips, resistors and such. During the
time I was working on the 8080A computer Apple computer began selling
the Apple. I quickly embraced the Apple because it was much more
powerful than what I was building.
From the
Apple II and other early computers, such as the Sinclair, Commodore and
Radio Shack TRS-80, I then got involved with the IBM computer and its
clones. I also had various Apples such as the MacIntosh and the Apple
III. Along the way I taught myself programming.
More on this
soon...
